On January 17th 2013 London hosted a regular season NBA game between the New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons. Although the NBA has hosted 7 games in London perviously, this was only the second regular season game. In March 2011 New Jersey Nets V Toronto Raptors fans were treated to a spectacular triple overtime. The deadlock was finally broken by Travis Outlaw who helped the Nets to win 137-136.
In January my mum and I travelled across the Thames to the O2 in Greenwich, when we got there my mum started to queue up in the wrong place even though I had told her about 10 times we should be lining up somewhere else!! We eventually found our seats which were amazingly close to the court. Being a Spike Lee fan, the director of films such as 'Do The Right Thing' featuring the song 'Fight the Power' by the pioneering Public Enemy and his 1992 film 'Malcolm X', our allegiance lay with the Knicks. Other famous faces there included: Tinie Tempah, Thierry Henry, Wretch 32 and Chipmunk.
During the first two quarters the Knicks stayed on top of their game. After falling behind 56-41 the Pistons staged a third-quarter comeback, scoring 10 points half way through the period, which put them in the lead at 67-63. The Knicks then threw a pass across the baseline to Novak who hammered home a jump shot. Stoudemire then scored from a foul shot before Smith scored a jump shot with his own rebound. Anthony then managed to finish off the third quarter with a lay-up to make victory theirs once again with the score 75-63. During the fourth and final quarter the Pistons had the lead over the Knicks with Bynum scoring seven straight points - however, this didn't last long. The overall score ended up being New York Knicks 102, Detroit Pistons 87 with Carmelo Anthony making 26 points.
